Is a Toyota Corolla a good buy?

I am shopping for a new vehicle. I really really like Toyota Corollas. I'm looking for any precautions that may deter me from purchasing one, or common problems I may encounter with it. I'm seeking anything between an 03-07 model. I've driven nothing but Mercury's, and they have both been a nightmare. I'm definitely looking forward to dependability.
