l Needle EMG doesn't hurt???

So I'm considering participating in a research study at a urogynecology center (they torture people I think) and the study involved inserting a sensor probe and doing some kegel exercises than they insert some needles into the l c for a EMG study that can take a couple of hours max. They said the gyn will numb the area with lidocaine and that it WON"T hurt.... I find this HARD to believe. I can't find any info on the net that's helpful and wondering what others think of this or have gone through it and can attest that it won't hurt?
